Forming of plastic parts

Microwave heating enables forming of plastic parts. Preheating enables better volume heating for certain materials. Usual 6mm layer can be treated in seconds.

Plastic half-product shrinking

Plastic foils, tubes, sheets etc. can be shrinked by microwaves with the advantage of relatively stable temperature allocation. Practical use is especially for treating packaging material and protection layers.

Recycling of plastics and waste treatment

Microwave recycling is environment friendly. The unique application was tested recycling originally flamable plastic material to the new material with enhanced fireproof properties that could be used for thermal insulation.

The plastics are easily disrupted when treating communal waste as well as more dangerous hospital waste.

Advanced microwave properties are applied in plastic industry namely for drying, polymerization, jointing, forming, shrinkage, recyclation and preheating for other thermal applications

Advantages of the microwave heating

Dielectric heating

Plastics are most often very poor thermal conductors. Conventional heating enables energy input only due t the thermal gradient that can deteriorate the product properties. The microwave field influences the volume and does not depend on the conductivity.

Drying plastics

Drying is probably the most spread MW application in plastic industry. The mechanism is very different from the conventional drying bringing its specific advantages such as same moisture and thermal gradient, water pump and capilar effects, preventing the surface crust.

The design is pretty universal enabling treating of various shapes, pieces or powder material without difficult line or chamber adjusting. The design concept is mostly very similar.

Very important application is drying of the hygroscopic plastic granulates especially prior to extrusion. The process can be accelerated even 30 times substantially cutting the usual drying time 2 – 12 hours. Another advantage is extremely low target moisture that can be reached by MW. The energetic balance is 1kW of installed power for drying 1 liter of water per hour. 

Plastic parts jointing

Glueing and welding of plastic parts brings benefits especially using radio frequency range. The achieved progress enables very effective automation of the welding cycle in complicated parts produced in mass. Thermoplastics reinforced by continuous fibres cannot be welded by usual way and must be glued instead. Welding by microwaves can improve the mechanical properties substantially.
